The draught regulations to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018, which the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India proposes to make with prior approval of the Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 92 read with section 23 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006), are hereby published for the information as required by sub-section (1) of section 92 of the said Act.

Objections or recommendations submitted in relation to the aforementioned proposed rules within the time frame provided above will be reviewed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
Regulations in Draft
1. These rules may be referred to as the 2022 Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations.
2. In the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018, in regulation 4, sub-regulation (4), clause (e) should be replaced with the following, namely,
‘(e) Products manufactured of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) may be used for packing, storing, transporting, or dispensing of food products as and when the Food Authority notifies norms and recommendations. Such packing materials must also meet any other relevant national standards/regulations.’
